Hi ya! I was recently hired by a client to transform a small room into a stylish multi-functional space that Airbnb guests traveling to the DC area would enjoy. It sounded like a fun project but the room came with a set of challenges. Here are the key areas that I needed to address:
- Poor lighting
- No closet space/lack of storage
- Accommodate 1-2 guests
- Home office for homeowner
We started with a completely clean slate. All of the old furniture was sold to charity. My goal was to create a global inspired bohemian space that had subtle pops of color and tons of pattern and mixed metals. To save space, we opted for a Queen size sleeper sofa instead of a full size bed. We added a wardrobe for guests to store their belongings. The space also included a dual desk work area for the client and business partner.
First, we replaced the existing overhead light fixture with modern recessed lights. Next, we painted the walls and ceiling in Bright Ceiling White and then added an accent wall in Starwood, both by Sherwin Williams. The white walls and ceiling really brightened up the dark room. Speaking of color, did I mention that green was my client’s favorite? It was a imperative that we incorporated a shade of green in the space.
Finally, it’s time to assemble furniture and put everything in its place.
That’s a wrap, folks! Thanks so much for stopping by. If you’re interested in giving your home a design makeup, contact me to schedule a consultation.
